For designer labels, go uptown
The Upper East Side has three of the 13, all consignment. Designer Revival, 324 East 81st Street, is the one shop in this guide that Google files as a thrift store, and 21 reviews mention designer items. It opens 11 am to 6 pm every day.
On Madison Avenue, Michael's, The Consignment Shop for Women at number 1125 closes Sundays. Seven numbers up, La Boutique Resale is on the second and third floors of 1132, and 14 of its reviews mention gowns.
Downtown, 17th St Luxury NYC, 18 East 17th Street, is the bag counter: 4.9 from 289 reviews, 13 of them about the bag selection. INA, 21 Prince Street in SoHo, is one of two shops here that Google puts in its expensive price band.
For a rack to dig through
Rogue, 154 Allen Street, is the most reviewed shop on this list: 4.9 from 1,394 reviews. Y2K fashion comes up in 33 of them and thrift in 19, and it stays open until 8 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
Tokio 7, 83 East 7th Street, is a consignment shop that reviewers treat as thrift. Thirty six reviews mention the designer selection and 11 mention a thrift store. Google rates its prices moderate, the only one of the 13 in that band.
On Orchard Street, Pilgrim New York at number 70 is filed as consignment, but 30 reviews call it a vintage shop. Its hours are short: noon to 5 pm, and closed Mondays.
For selling, trading and cash
Five of the 13 buy as well as sell. Mr Goods Buy & Sell, 7 Maiden Lane in the Financial District, is the most reviewed of them: 4.8 from 925 reviews, 88 of which mention cash payment. Sneakers come up 45 times.
In Astoria, Rons Buy Sell Trade Handbags Sneakers for Cash, 30-11 Steinway Street, opens 10 am to 8 pm every day. Its name is its menu, and 26 reviews mention deals.
Tokio 7 and Unearth Vintage buy too, by their Google profiles, and Unearth takes clothes for recycling. Other People's Clothes, 112 4th Avenue, puts buy sell trade in its web address, though we hold no Google reading for it yet. The same goes for Harlem's Trunk Show Designer Consignment, 275-277 West 113th Street.

What to check before you go
