Sneaker stores in NYC: 10 shops by the pair you want
At two of them every sale in the shop is final, and a running shop in Brooklyn gives you 60 days.
These 10 sneaker stores in Manhattan and Brooklyn cover four reasons to buy a pair: release day, resale, skate and walking. Two of them take nothing back once you pay there, so the rule at each counter matters more than the price. The priciest pair here drew police to Orchard Street.
That shoe is Jeff Staple's Pigeon Dunk, released on 22 February 2005 at his shop, Reed Space, 151 Orchard Street. Nike made 150 pairs, 30 for each of five New York shops, nss magazine reported. Police walked buyers out to taxis.
The next morning the New York Post ran "Sneaker frenzy" on its front page. "Before the riot, sneaker culture was underground and kind of nerdy," Staple told Highsnobiety in 2018. A new pair of that Pigeon is $35,059 on Flight Club's site today (a new Nike SB Dunk Low Pro is $120 at Labor).

For a release day pair
Extra Butter is on Orchard Street too, at 125. Its about page dates it to 2007. This month its releases page lists a "CBGB" Nike Dunk Low at $130.
Releases go by draw. Its terms allow one entry per person, charge the card only if you win, and say draw pairs cannot be returned.
Kith reopened its flagship at 337 Lafayette Street on 16 May 2025, and its blog calls that shop the brand's beginning. The shoes are on the third floor. Drawings run only in the Kith App, and a win is final sale, shipped or collected.
Concepts, 99 University Place, is the fifth shop of the company Tarek Hassan founded in 1996 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Its 2,500 square feet include a skate room, and every pair comes straight from the maker. A drawing win has to be collected in person, with government ID, or it is forfeited.
For a sold out pair at resale
Flight Club, 812 Broadway, was established in New York in 2005, the year of the Pigeon, and opens 11 am to 7 pm every day. Its support page is plain. Everything bought in the shop is final sale.
Origins NYC, 326 Canal Street, calls itself a retail and consignment store, and its site says experts in the shop authenticate every item. A 2023 Air Jordan 4 Thunder is from $349 new, or $249 worn. Its refund policy is one line: every sale is final, with no returns and no exchanges.
To sell instead, Mr Goods Buy & Sell, 7 Maiden Lane, buys sneakers with handbags, watches and gold, and its site promises payment the same day. Cash payment comes up in 88 of its 925 Google reviews. Bring the box if you have it: its seller FAQ says boxes and receipts help the value, though neither is required.
For a skate shoe
Labor Skateboard Shop, 46 Canal Street, sells that $120 Dunk Low Pro, the Pigeon's model, and skate shoes from Vans, Adidas, Asics, Converse and Last Resort. It is an authorized dealer for every brand it carries, its FAQ says.
Its refund policy rules out returns or exchanges on any Nike SB Quickstrike or Special Release. For anything else bought in the shop, it points you to the policy posted there.
For an everyday walking shoe
Tip Top Shoes, 155 West 72nd Street, opened in 1940 and is run by the family's fourth generation. It sells Hoka, On and Birkenstock.
Unworn pairs go back in the original box for 15 days. Worn pairs do not.
Paragon Sports, 867 Broadway on Union Square, has been a single store since 1908, and a fourth generation runs it too. Its running shoes include Hoka, On and Brooks.
Returns run 30 days, for a pair that is unworn, tagged, boxed and with its receipt. Its own page quotes The New York Times: "an actual paragon of all things sports."
Brooklyn Running Co., 222 Grand Street in Williamsburg and 480 Bergen Street in Park Slope, opened in the fall of 2013. A Hoka Arahi 9 is $154.95.
Fittings are free: staff watch you walk in socks, then you try pairs on the shop's treadmill. The return window is 60 days from purchase, with a full refund for an unworn pair with its tags or box.

Canal Street has Labor at 46 and Origins NYC at 326, and Extra Butter is at 125 Orchard Street, the street where the Pigeon was released.
